KS5 Biology
A Level Biology
Biology equips students with critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving skills—ideal for careers in healthcare, environmental science, research, and biotechnology.
Our curriculum focuses on essential core concepts such as cells, genetics, ecology, and physiology. These are developed through a carefully sequenced programme that moves students from competency to mastery.
This rigorous and applied approach prepares students for success in both higher education and a wide range of science and health-related careers.
Exam board: AQA
Students will cover the following topics:
Year 12
- Biological Models
- Cells
- Organisms exchange substances with their environment
- Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms•
Year 13
- Energy transfers in and between organisms (A-level only)
- Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments (A-level only)
- Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems (A-level only)
- The control of gene expression (A-level only)
A separate endorsement of practical skills will be taken alongside the A-level. This will be assessed by teachers and will be based on direct observation of students’ competency in a range of skills that are not assessable in written exams.
A Level Biology helps students develop strong investigative, observational, and critical thinking skills. It fosters curiosity about the natural world and builds an understanding of living systems—essential in many health and science careers.
