Jamie Wedlinscky left UTC Leeds in summer 2019 with a clutch of grade 8s for his GCSEs and a growing interest in computing. He now has his sights set on a degree apprenticeship, probably in computer science. We interviewed him on GCSE results day:
“I wasn’t happy at my old school and this place looked like a fresh start.
“I met a lot of good people here, a lot of good teachers who care about the students and really want to try, and it’s been a nice environment to learn in.”
Jamie feels that the UTC expanded his experience, including giving him a work placement at a global engineering company with its headquarters in Leeds:
“Meeting people from lots of different backgrounds has been a big opportunity. It’s much more diverse here than my previous school, so it’s given me good life experience more than anything.
“I met quite a few employers – either here or going out. I did a work experience through the school, in the IT department of a company called ROCOL. My interest in computing has really grown over the past few years.”
