Meet Chloe one of UTC Leeds female engineers.
Year thirteen UTC Leeds student Chloe has always had a passion for STEM subjects: ‘I’ve always been more interested in maths and science than English. When it came to choosing my A Levels I wanted to do further maths, and I thought I’d like engineering; it’s applying maths and physics, so it sounded good when making my choices.’
Over the past year Chloe has really settled into UTC life: ‘It’s been really good, you have a lot more opportunities. I’ve just been writing my personal statement and I’ve found I have a lot more left to write because I’ve got a lot more experience within the industry.’
She has had the opportunity to work with a number of employers, including Siemens, where she has now completed a work experience placement. During her time at Siemens, Chloe saw how they build electric drives, gearboxes and motors. She also spent time learning about their main efficiency initiative and was asked to make her own suggestions for improvements that could be made.
Discussing what she would say to other people considering UTC, Chloe said: ‘I would recommend it because you have good teachers for maths and physics and there are a lot of extra opportunities.
