Class of 2020 – Millie Williamson, Y11 - Student Stories - UTC Leeds

Millie Williamson has her sights set on a career in Computer Science and moved to the UTC in Year 10 to specialise early.

She said, “I decided to move from my old school in Wakefield and come here because I wanted a better opportunity to jump onto the STEM side of things.

“I also wanted to focus on Computer Science, which I wouldn’t have been able to do previously.”

After securing a strong set of GCSE results, achieving 7s and 8s in all her subjects, Millie is progressing into the UTC Leeds sixth form to study Computer Science, Physics and Maths.

Millie already knows she wants to study Computer Science at university following her A Levels. She said: “I’ve been looking at a software course, developing AI (Artificial Intelligence) and that sort of thing –  I just find it really interesting! I’ve seen a course at Liverpool University which offers a year away in China which would be really cool.

“I worked backwards when deciding my A Levels. I know I want to pursue a career in Computer Science, so I looked at some courses and then I looked at the requirements for each course.”

Commenting on her time at the UTC so far, Millie said: “My first day here was a standout moment for me, I wanted a change, so it was a welcome new start!

“The students who come here enjoy STEM subjects, so you know you’re going to have similar interests with people. They have also chosen to come here, so it’s a nice learning environment.”
