Alex McCarron joined the UTC in Year 10 to pursue his interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects and has ambitions to go to Oxford or Edinburgh University.
Following an outstanding set of GCSE results, including one 7, three 8s and four 9s, Alex is looking forward to continuing his studies at UTC Leeds.
He said, “I am happy with my results, I did really well. I’m particularly proud of getting a 9 in Further Maths.
“I’m going to stay at the UTC for sixth form and I’ve chosen to do an all A Level option and not a technical qualification. I’m going to study Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths.”
Despite not choosing a technical option, Alex enjoyed studying Engineering during his first two years at the college. He said, “I really liked doing the design work, such as working with the 3D software and using the CNC lathe machine, that was my favourite part I’d have to say.”
Speaking of his time at the UTC so far, Alex said: “I’ve made some great friends here and I like the teachers as well. I wouldn’t complain about anything to be honest!”
