UTC Leeds student Faris Ahmed, who is about to begin Year 13 with us, was recently selected to take part in a five-day BUILD Your Future programme, funded by Leeds City Council.
The programme was designed to provide 16-22-year-olds from across the Leeds City Region with the tools to develop socially conscious futures in business. The various workshops within the programme developed interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills to inspire attendees to make a positive and sustainable difference to society by tackling problems such as food waste and poverty.
The programme, hosted by Nexus – the innovation hub at the University of Leeds – had space for only 11 attendees. Successful applicants were chosen based on a process which involved submitting videos about major global challenges the young people wanted to tackle in the future. Faris jumped at the chance to apply and was delighted to be chosen.
Faris has spoken extremely highly of the programme and the experience he gained by taking part. “It’s great to come to a programme where I can meet other young people with the same drive to change the world,” he said. “Now I know how I can bring this into my future career options and have learned some new skills like design thinking which will help me bring an entrepreneurial mindset to what I do next.”
At UTC Leeds we work with amazing Industry Partners to provide students with opportunities to work on real-world problems and make a difference to their community through their studies. We are delighted that Faris has taken this further to develop his skills further in his own time through the BUILD Your Future Programme. As Faris enters his final year with us, we can’t wait to see will achieve next alongside his peers!
