UTC Leeds students gain top scores in mathematical challenge! - UTC Leeds

27th January 2020

Ten students from UTC Leeds took part in the Senior Maths Challenge which is organised yearly by the UK Maths Trust. We’re delighted that three of our students gained a medal award – a fantastic achievement for our enthusiastic maths students!

The Senior Mathematical Challenge, which took place in November 2019, is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition, designed to make students across the UK think. The competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

Congratulations to Declan Simons, who achieved a silver medal, and to Ellie Bamfield and Julia Margarido, who both received a bronze award. Dana Gadd, who was in Year 12 at the time of the competition, narrowly missed out on a bronze award but was presented with a certificate in recognition of the best score of her year group!

Daniel Russell, Assistant Subject Leader of Mathematics said: “At UTC Leeds we encourage our students to take part in as many extra-curricular maths activities as possible, challenging their way of thinking to explore alternative avenues of study. The Senior Mathematical Challenge is just one example of this. We’re extremely proud of all the students who took part in this competition.”
