16th November 2018

Year 10 and 11 students nominated by their Engineering teachers for producing exceptional work in Engineering, were offered the opportunity to take part in a ‘Joy in Engineering’ event at the National Physical Laboratory, Huddersfield.

The students enjoyed a number of workshops and talks on University competition entries for Robot wars, drones and Formula Student, in which some of the students were able to drive a flying lap on the team car’s simulator.

The students also learned about the work of the National Physical Laboratory with Metrology with practical activities, and explored future design with 3D printing and Virtual Reality.

The day also included a tour around the Institute of Railway Research in which the students learned about the full scale rolling stock test rig.

The visit was a fantastic insight into a wide range of engineering and science sectors and further inspired the students’ in their career aspirations.
