A Level Mathematics is one of the core academic qualifications needed to enter university and the world of professional engineering. All students at UTC Leeds study Mathematics as a discrete course and also as part of their Engineering course. What does the course cover?
You will study:
- Pure Mathematics: Proof, Algebra and functions, Coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane, Sequences and series, Trigonometry, Exponentials and logarithms, Differentiation, Integration and Vectors
- Statistics: Statistical sampling, Data presentation and interpretation, Probability, Statistical distributions and Statistical hypothesis testing
- Mechanics: Quantities and units in mechanics, Kinematics and Forces and Newton’s laws and Moments
Note Moments is studied at A Level.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is through exams. The A Level course is assessed by three 2-hour exams each worth a third each of the overall marks.
What can you go on to do?
Mathematics will equip you for a wide range of study options at university as well as for higher apprenticeships.
